The College has brought its expertise as a leading provider of education for elite athletes, many of whom will represent Great Britain in the Olympics this summer, not to mention a decade of investment to the ground-breaking course.
“We are experts in working with young elite athletes whose intensive training and competition schedules demand highly specialised, flexible education,” said Elaine Locke, Team Leader for Sport Higher Education at the College.
“This, together with Loughborough College’s ten year major investment in technology to enhance teaching and learning, means we have been able to develop a unique online course validated by Loughborough University .
“Lectures and seminars can be accessed flexibly to allow students to revisit material at any time and there are many opportunities to communicate and collaborate with peers on the course in an online environment, just as they would in the classroom.
“Assessments can be completed, delivered and retrieved online and tracking, feedback and assessment by tutors is all delivered electronically, giving the student the flexibility and control to manage their study programme in line with their sporting demands.
“Resources are developed in house by experienced teaching staff and delivered via advanced platforms with the backing of a dedicated Learning Technology team and the foundation degree can even be spread over five years, with no increase in course module costs during that time.”
“This really is a one-of-a-kind Sports Foundation Degree course.”
Matt Allen, Player Development Manager for the Rugby Players’ Association said: “An online Sports Science Degree will be of huge value to professional rugby players. With Loughborough’s excellent sporting reputation, the support that the College can offer and the fact that players can study the course from anywhere in the country will make it a really appealing option for players who are wanting to gain a meaningful sports qualification.”
Jane Mawdsley, Performance Lifestyle Advisor for British Swimming said: “This innovative course provides an excellent opportunity for elite swimmers to successfully combine their training and studies, which would otherwise be impossible, due to daily training times, training camps and competitions. The staff at Loughborough Colllege have always been very supportive and a number of swimmers have completed A-levels and their degrees over the last Olympic cycle and this new online course provides a valuable opportunity for athletes to prepare for their careers after sport.”
